Irish Beauty Blog Awards 2015 | Shortlist

About Thursday night…

The inaugural Irish Beauty Blog Awards 2015 took place at Lillie’s Bordello on Dublin’s Grafton Street. It was a night to recognise and celebrate the Irish Beauty and Fashion Blogging Community – all for a good cause. All proceeds from the awards were donated to Breast Cancer Ireland. I’m sure many of you have been affected in some way by this illness. My mum’s mum died from breast cancer, so unfortunately I never got to meet her.

When I got the email two weeks ago saying I was shortlisted, I didn’t really think anything of it. I actually thought it was a joke and called the RSVP number just to double check. On the other end of the phone was a very friendly lady, named Lisa telling me all about the event. She said I was in very good company. That I realised when I looked up the nominees a few days later. There were 9 categories including Best Vlogger, Best Beauty Blogger and Best Fashion Blogger. I was delighted to be in the Best Fashion Blog category, but was fairly certain I didn’t stand a chance when I saw my fellow nominees: Pippa O’Connor and SoSueMe to name but a couple of the country’s most well-known bloggers. Both were nominated for 5 categories.

Here’s a look at just some of the nominees:

I decided I’d go to the awards to see what it was all about. After all it was an event to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. I’m so grateful to whoever thought to nominate me and I’m still really shocked and delighted to have been shortlisted, given the volume of nominees (over 350) and the blogging elite that were in my category.

My dear friend Brónagh and I got glammed up. I didn’t really want to buy anything new so I just went with a simple dress I had from before. Admittedly, I didn’t feel all that great from the get go. I spent the train journey correcting exam papers and dragged a suitcase around Grafton Street looking for shoes, so I was fairly listless by the time the event started.

Do you ever have those nights were no matter what you put on, no matter how much make-up you wear and no matter what you do with the gruaig… it just doesn’t come together? It was kinda one of those nights. I’m my own worst critic.

Dress is from my local store Ruby Lane. Buy similar herehere and here. All accessories were picked up from various vintage stores over time.

Stay tuned for Brónagh’s outfit. She looked drop.dead.gorgeous.

The finger food and cupcakes were delicious and our goodie bags were loaded with cosmetics to try out. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little bit deflated on the night, but being shortlisted has given me the boost I needed to continue and work harder.

Last year I was nominated for Blog Awards Ireland 2014, but wasn’t shortlisted. I was also a finalist for Social & Personal Magazine’s Blogger Awards 2014… but wasn’t successful (I did however win Best Dressed on the night, which made the trip to Ennis worthwhile) and again this year I was unsuccessful. So who knows? Next year, may be my year!

I picked up these nude heels from Office in a last minute rush, right before the awards kicked off. Buy here.

Pippa won Best Fashion Blog and deservedly so. Both she and Suzanne Jackson won 3 prizes each. Pippa was very honest and genuine about how she started out and that she has a team behind her working on her website. It’s not a one woman show. I, on the other hand, blog in my free time on top of my full time job. There’s just no comparison. She told us that she gets 35,000 new and unique hits a day!

On the night, she wore a casual denim shirt (H&M) with an embroidered skirt (Topshop). It was effortless. Check it out here.

Thanks again for your support and considering me for Best Fashion Blog. I will try up my game – for you!

Thanks for reading,
