Hen Party | Make & Do with modaFix

A few months ago I was contacted about facilitating a creative workshop for a hen party in Strandhill. The bridesmaids had heard about my previous refashioning workshops from my blog and thought this would be of interest to the bride-to-be. They travelled from Dublin over the June Bank Holiday and stayed at Ocean Wave Lodge. Here’s a look at some of their vintage inspired creations.

Our headdresses are something a little bit different from your traditional fascinators worn to weddings and the races. They are neat hair accessories worn to the side. We used sinamay bases, which I got from The Crafter’s Basket. When I’m buying materials in bulk I travel to Cliffoney and they always do a great deal, which I’m very grateful for.

I love how everyone came up with something totally unique. No two pieces are the same. We covered the bases with fabric and felt and decorated the creations with feathers, gems, vintage buttons, trimmings and statement earrings. We broke up old, preloved jewellery with pliers and cutters and repurposed the jewels. I love the concept of creating something new from something old.

I think they turned out absolutely beautiful. All of the hens got stuck in and crafty and all 25 ladies had a bespoke accessory by the end of the workshop. For years I have been accumulating fabric and materials for making jewellery and it’s great to finally see them being put to good use.

My design workshops are a great way to keep you out of the pub for two hours! It’s good to do something productive at a hen party and feel you’ve achieved something. I think the girls enjoyed the creative workshop and the freedom they were given to create. I know I was delighted to be asked to coordinate this activity and here’s to many more exciting future projects!

It’s amazing just how different everyone’s turned out. It’s nice to take time out to exercise your creative side. The girls liked being left to their own devices and found this make and do session relaxing. Ocean Wave Lodge was an ideal venue for the workshop. It’s bright and spacious, with everything we needed. It’s a great idea to rent this lodge out for a weekend with a group of friends.

We passed around a personalised hen party book for the girls to sign.

Best wishes to Emer and her family. Thanks to the bridesmaids for opening this door for me. This is something I’m hoping to do more of in the future. Spread the word!
