It’s been a while since I’ve done a DIY post. I hadn’t planned on writing or getting creative today, but I was clearing out accessories and makeup as I do regularly and instead of dumping everything and leaving things aside for the charity shop, I started putting a little gift box together for a special little lady.
There’s no occasion, I just don’t like to bin everything.
I like to pass some of the love on to people that appreciate little treasures.
I’ve done this in the past as she likes accessories and makeup.
When I was younger I used to love hand-me-downs from my cousins too and trinkets (treasures!). In fact, one of my favourite gifts ever was a tiny circular box full of stones and shells that my Dad’s cousin Sister Maura collected on the beach for me. It was a black box with purple flowers on it and I can still picture some of the shells with their iridescent sheen, coloured stones and sea glass.
It was such a special, sentimental gift.
I adored that scene in The Little Mermaid where Ariel shows us around her treasure trove – her gadgets and gizmos aplenty. Watch here. I know what you’re thinking: ‘What a total weirdo. This wan’s for the birds!’ It’s just, I like nice things and used to be so sentimental. Not so much anymore.
Another scene that always sticks with me is the opening scene of the movie Curly Sue. I remember being amazed by all the pretty everyday things on screen. Watch the first 2 minutes here to see what I mean. Am I a weirdo?
Anyway, here’s a simple DIY task that anyone can do.
All you need is a shoe box, fill it with treasures and decorate it nicely.
I included preloved and unused jewellery, hair clips, accessories, nail varnish, a purse, a keyring and makeup. I also added pretty little boxes (I have this strange love for boxes!) and pop the earrings inside for more surprises when she opens them up.
Well, there you have it!
It’s one that anyone can do: I’m sure you have a house full of treasures that some preteen or little lady will love and appreciate!
