EmMarie | London Fashion Week Debut

Hey folks!

I’m absolutely thrilled for young Fashion Design Graduate Emma Curtis. It’s just been announced that her label EmMarie (pronounced Emma Marie) is set to take London Fashion Week by storm!EmMarie | modaFix

You may have read about Emma on my blog before or in my columns for Sligo Now and Mayo Now magazines. You all know that I love to support and promote Irish Design and particularly local and emerging talent. I’ve admired Emma’s work over the past couple of years and having interviewed her in the past I’ve witnessed her passion for what she does so well. I’m so happy her efforts are recognised.

27 years old, Emma is from Drumconrath in Co. Meath. Having very recently graduated from St. Angela’s College in Sligo with a BA (Hons) in Fashion, Textiles and Design with Business Management in May she has already been spotted by Savita Kaye (CEO of House of IKons) and will take to the runway at London Fashion Week on 17th of September.

House of IKons is a global brand renowned for launching emerging designers. It celebrates the new generation of global fashion talent with an emphasis on innovative fashion.

I’m not surprised that Emma’s creations caught Savita’s eye. Throughout Emma’s three year degree she got great recognition for her work. She was a Finalist Young Designer of the Year at Dublin Fashion Festival 2015; Wearing her own design to the Galway Races she made the Top 10 on Ladies’ Day 2015, she was Finalist Irish Student Designer of the Year during Kerry Fashion Week 2016 and Student Finalist at the Irish Fashion Innovation Awards (IFIA) 2016.

Let’s hear Emma’s reaction!

How did it feel getting a call from Savita Kaye?

I couldn’t believe she was actually on the phone to me, I can’t even remember parts of the conversation. I was so overwhelmed, I couldn’t believe the opportunity she was offering. I’m so delighted, I still can’t believe it’s real.

What does this mean to you?

To show at London Fashion Week under the House of IKons, it’s amazing. I just finished college a few months ago and now I’m going to have my designs showcased at LFW under the House of IKons – it’s absolutely mind-blowing.

Tell us about the preparations.

I need to have a 10-piece collection for the show. I have some of the collection made so it’s full steam ahead for the next few weeks getting everything finished. I have a lot done since I got the news so I’m not worried; Everything is coming together as planned.

What inspired your collection?

My collection is inspired by dragonflies: the beauty and colours of these beautiful creatures, each unique in their own way. Looking at the lifespan of a dragonfly I discovered that they don’t live very long. I designed and created an occasion wear collection based on this information, my concept being to enjoy the occasion when you can, as life is so short. Considering our own lives and the one of a dragonfly I developed a fun, happy colourful collection. “Let life take you and enjoy the occasion”.

What fabrics did you use?

Suede and glitter suede hides, chiffons and my own designed printed lining.Emma Curtis | modaFix

What are your plans for the future?

I will continue to work as hard as I can to make my designs the best they can be. And with the help and support from Savita and her team at the House of Ikons I have a fantastic opportunity in getting my Label known around the world.

Well, what an opportunity indeed! Here’s wishing Emma Curtis and EmMarie Designs the very best of luck at LFW and continued success.
