With 11 years experience working in entertainment, fashion and beauty, Lorraine Keane is finally revealing all her beauty secrets. Join us on Friday 18th November at Twin Trees Hotel in Ballina to learn from the very best in the industry. It’s the ultimate girly night out with fashion shows, hair and makeup demos, anti-ageing skincare advice, body shape styling, lifestyle talk, shopping and much more – all under the same roof. I sit down with the well-known broadcaster and beauty to find out more.
How did the idea for ‘Keane on Style’ come about?
Throughout my whole career what I’m asked most about is my skincare regime. Women want to know how to delay the signs of ageing, style advice and my favourite beauty products. Knowledge is key and I’ve been so lucky to have had access to the best stylists, makeup artists and skincare experts over my 11 years working in entertainment, fashion and beauty. I wanted to share my knowledge, and so the Keane On Style roadshow was born.
What can we expect from your tour?
The evening kicks off with a fashion show of independent boutiques, online shops and Irish designers, styled by myself and modelled by Celia Holman Lee’s models. Expect the best in the hair and beauty business sharing their tips and tricks of the trade. Nutritionalists from Cleanmarine, Ireland’s leading brand for natural health supplements will explain how our diets help us to feel and look better. Rita Mylett, Ireland’s only Shapewear designer will give a masterclass on what clothes we should be wearing from Autumn/Winter catwalks depending on our body shape. Skincare expert, Peggy Stringer is excellent. She is also a Hospice nurse and is so passionate. She will share tips for looking after your skin and reveal the best anti-ageing remedies on the market today. She is actually offering one lucky lady a year’s free consultation (worth €700) on the night!
Speaking of skincare, tell us about your own skincare regime.
Due to the nature of my work – wearing makeup for photo-calls and TV – a deep cleanse is very important. I use moisturisers and cleansers with a lot of glycolic acid for hydration. Hydration really is key. Our skin can become dehydrated easily in summer when the temperature is warmer and then again in winter with central heating. Laser is the best non-invasive treatment for reducing fine lines, pigmentation and rosacea. I get the intense IPL treatment done a couple of times a year. I’m not into toxins and injectables.
Do you have any products you can’t live without?
I use an amazing eye cream from La Roche-Posay; It’s called Hydraphase Intense Eyes; I’ve been using it since I was 25! I’ve suffered with adult acne and rosacea in the past and Peggy introduced me to the Jan Marini Skincare Range. It’s my favourite. It’s a 5 step treatment (5 bottles) I’d highly recommend.
You’re brand ambassador and the face of so many beauty products, do you genuinely like and use these products?
Absolutely. For example Garnier has this brilliant under eye roller that’s really hydrating and it only costs around €8. I found the YSL version really dried out my skin.
What’s your stance on fake tan? Which brands do you use?
Generally I avoid it, as I dislike the smell and the effort – we’ve enough to be doing! I wear it for Award ceremonies and photo-shoots and use various brands. I’ve just started using Bellamianta, which is a really lovely tan.
Your Keane On Style roadshow is a real family affair with your sisters Tori and Becky on board; Can you tell us what each member of Team Keane brings?
Yes, my sister Tori Keane is a TV hairstylist with Ireland AM. She is really excellent. She does these incredible hairstyles without using a mirror! My sister Becky Keane is a makeup artist and does these great 15 minute, achievable makeup looks. Both are on hand to solve any hair or makeup dilemmas you might have and give you lots of easy DIY tricks that you can achieve at home.
What’s your go-to look on a Friday night?
I love a good pair of jeans and changing up simple looks with accessories.
For someone going on a first date, what would you recommend wearing?
Keep it casual-chic with skinnies and a basic top. Make it look like you haven’t made much of an effort… even if really you’ve been planning your outfit for a week in advance!
Pictured above, I was so happy when I won Best Dressed during the Galway Races this summer. Lorraine was one of the judges.
Name 3 investment pieces for AW16.
I find it funny that Irish people don’t own an anorak. We all need a good quality waterproof coat! Invest in wardrobe staples like a good pair of jeans to take you from day to night and a nice blazer or jacket. I think we actually need about 12 pieces in our wardrobe so we can mix and match. You need both shoes and boots. I usually buy a few on trend pieces from the high street and then 4-5 classic pieces. Then accessories like a scarf, necklace or fur collar can completely transform your look.
So what is it that Irish women are doing wrong?
I think dressing for our body shape. I know I learned the hard way. You think something looks good until you see yourself in a magazine and realise that it doesn’t suit your body shape. I’m 3 different sizes when it comes to bust, waist and hips. Rita Mylett who’s part of the Keane On Tour roadshow is fantastic for teaching us how to dress for our body shape – showing us how to highlight and camouflage certain body parts.
I think you’ll agree that that’s a whole lot of useful tips! Here’s wishing Lorraine and Team Keane the very best of luck on their Ballina leg of the Autumn Winter tour. Tickets cost €75 (early bird €60) and includes a luxury goody bag (worth €120) with all Lorraine’s favourite products. There will be giveaways on the night worth thousands of euros.
Lorraine is kindly offering my readers 20% off! To avail of this offer use the following discount code: TT20. Book now on www.eventbrite.ie to avoid disappointment. We hope to see some of you there.
