We’re nearly there!
You gotta love Thursdays. Since it’s a day for late night shopping, I wanted to tell you about an event that’s taking place this evening. It’s at local store Cáit & I. They’re offering 10% off all stock so you can get started on your Christmas shopping. Cáit & I stock Irish Design and craft goods such as jewellery, homeware, accessories, art prints, stationery and unique children’s toys. They also have beautiful aran sweaters for kids.
Their range of gifts are hand-selected by sisters Tara and Kathleen (Cáit), ensuring that there is something of interest for all ages. Cáit & I stock quality, handmade goods and support local design, including: Mulholland Jewellery, Graham Reid Designs, prints by Reddin Designs, jewellery from Edge Only and goldsmith Tiffany Budd, shrawls by Nichola MacEvilly, accessories by LX Upcycle, ail + el homeware and Kathleen’s crocheted accessories.

I recently heard Tara McGowan of Cáit & I give a talk on Creative Entrepreneurship during Sligo Design Week. She described her ‘checkered past’ teaching French and German for 2 miserable years, working in theatre production in Berlin, her role as Music and Events Curator at The Model and her work at Blue Raincoat Theatre Company. That’s a whole 20 years working in the arts industry.
18 months ago she considered a change.
She always loved browsing flea markets and enjoyed spending time in shops that she just liked ‘to be’ in. She considered opening her own shop in Sligo and put the idea to her sister Kathleen (Cáit). They wanted to offer something different, yet complimentary. When it came to choosing a location, it had to be in line with the Cáit & I ethos: family run, an independent store, creative, on a street (not in a shopping centre)… there had to be ‘similar types’ around the vicinity.
I really think Kathleen and Tara have found the perfect spot at Market Cross next to Cosgrove’s and with Anna’s, The Italian Wardrobe and Kate’s Kitchen just across the road.
