This week I’d like to welcome guest blogger Emily Howard to modaFix. Emily is a TY student with a penchant for fashion and design and I’m delighted to have her on board to contribute as part of her work experience. This is a first for modaFix blog, but we all know how difficult it can be figuring out what career path you want to pursue and it’s important to lend a hand and take a chance when you can.
Tonight, Emily shares her winter wardrobe staples – definitely worth a read if you need some help updating on Cyber Monday! Let’s hear what this style savvy teen has to say.
This winter has been a cold one, which has many questioning what to wear: they want to wear something warm and cosy, without compromising style – something trendy that makes them feel a little bit more confident. I’m here to help! Winter clothing can be dressed up or dressed down, and you’ll always find something to suit your individual shape and personal style. Personally, I love winter clothing as it encompasses all my favourite colours such as burgundy and mossy green. I’ll talk you through some of my current favourite looks.
This winter I’ve been seeing and wearing lots of oversized clothing: oversized knits, T-shirts, band Tees, long trench coats and bomber jackets… oversized everything! Check this out. Style icons love effortless, oversized looks: comfort without scrimping on style.
High-wasted jeans are the way to go – they suck you in and help cover up. I’ve been loving my mom/boyfriend jeans too, giving that laid-back 90’s grungy feel, which I adore. Pair with Adidas Stan Smiths. Oversized denim jackets and dungarees are definitely making quite the comeback. My personal favourites are dungaree dresses.
This year accessories are big. Chokers are definitely back and better than ever; There are so many styles to choose from: velvet, mesh, diamond, shell. Jewellery can completely transform an outfit. Watches have been quite big the past 2 years now; I love the big round face watches with leather strap; I think they’re timeless.
Shoes and bags
Shoes and bags are my all-time favourite fashion pieces. I love to accessorise with a good bag. This winter I’ve been loving my Stan Smiths, available locally at The Athlete’s Foot in Sligo. This shop has a great selection of fashion sportswear and trainers. A good pair of ankle boots are essential in your winter wardrobe too. As regards bags, I have an obsession with little back-pack styles; They’re so handy and they look good with any outfit. I love local store Anna for bags.
Hats and scarves
Don’t forget to keep warm during the winter by wearing a scarf and hat. Knit hats and scarves are a winter must-have. There’s a huge range of knit hats with fur bobbles and oversized blanket scarves.
We hope you picked up some useful styling and shopping tips from today’s blog! A special thanks to Emily.
