Many of you may be familiar with modaFix blog from a fashion and lifestyle point of view – where I share experiences, musings and reviews from time to time. However, another passion of mine has always been languages. ‘Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.’ (Flora Lewis)
I am currently teaching Irish and Spanish, which we’ve just introduced at my new school and it has proven very popular with a huge uptake in its 1st year. Having studied several modern languages from secondary to masters level, the one I always recommend learning is Spanish. I adore teaching this language and students seem to love it too. Not only is it the most useful (it’s the 2nd most spoken language in the world and it’s the official language of 21 countries), I consider it to be the most enjoyable.
Here’s a look at where your Spanish will come in handy…
The purpose of today’s blog is to inform you of intensive Spanish classes that I offer after school every Tuesday at Educandi. Educandi is a grinds school set up by local lady Marielle Egan who spotted a gap in the market. It’s located in the heart of Sligo town and it’s both social as well as educational with the wellbeing of students at the centre of learning.
My classes: Tuesdays
4:30-5:30pm: Leaving Cert Spanish (OL)
5:45-6:30pm: Junior Cert Spanish
6:30-7:30pm: Leaving Cert Spanish (HL)
Classes are exam-focused and we cover essay writing, revision of tenses, subjunctive (present & imperfect), letter writing, comprehension skills and insider tips for success in the upcoming oral exams as well as marking criteria.
I have worked as a State Examiner for 6 years correcting written papers and examining Leaving Cert Spanish oral exams so I know exactly what examiners look for in a student. We work to bring the best out in each student – not to catch you out!
You will get the opportunity to practise your oral Spanish in a very small group, perfect your 5 role-plays and you will be provided with sample answers and notes.
We really hope to see you there.

It’s free, interactive and genuinely a fantastic resource. I’ve started teaching myself Italian via Duolingo. It’s my guilty pleasure in the evenings and it’s really addictive!
